How I Became My Husband's Girlfriend

Here comes part tres - I'm working on my spanish - of my 5-8+ part series about my relationship with my husband. It has been fascinating so far and I know you can't wait for the next installment. I've talked about how I met my husband and how I got to know him. Now we're getting to the dating part of our relationship.

Dating... if you can call it that. We basically went from "hanging out" to being "exclusive." I'm not sure "why" I feel the "need" to keep "using" those "quotation marks." Anyways, our transition from hanging out to exclusive happened on a Friday afternoon in ... late November early December. Guy and I were at his parents house watching Road to Perdition. Very romantic. We were leaning up against the couch on the floor in the living room. The movie ended and we -

oh wait! I don't think I told you guys about when Guy watched the entire Pride and Prejudice circa 1995. My favorite film version of that story. He sat through the whole 6 hours. Not in one sitting mind you, but it happened. That sealed the deal for me (#priorities), and this happened during our hang out phase. He was putting in the time that's for sure.

Anyways, we were watching the credits and Guy turns to me and says these fatal fateful words, "So, why don't we call this what it is? ......... Will you be my girlfriend?"
Me: "Yeah"
Guy: "Can I kiss you now?" (we had only been occasionally holding hands up to this point)
Me: "Yup"

Aaaaand that's where my story ends.

Some might accuse Guy of asking me out only to get in my pants. Thankfully he proved that train of thought false when he decided to stick around. I sure made it difficult for him to do that though.

^^This picture is from just a few months later. Aren't we such a happy couple?^^

Look out for a post about dating sometime in the future of this blog.

How I Got To Know My Husband

Now the time between when Guy and I first met and when we started dating/became exclusive/whatever you want to call it is a little fuzzy. I do remember our first date though.

It happened in the beginning of October 2008. I know this because I still have the movie ticket stub. I must have had a good feeling to keep a movie ticket stub from a first date. Anyways, it actually was a double date and we actually went with the couple I mentioned in my last post about how we met. Guy actually did not ask me out on the date, Liz asked me if I wanted to go on a double date with her, her boyfriend, and Guy. I, of course, agreed.

Side note: I'm not sure if this just happens in my generation or community of faith, but going to college was not like what I had envisioned. The men don't ask the women out on dates. Everyone just kinda hangs out and then after a while you ask someone to be your girlfriend. I was sorely disappointed. I thought it would be fun to go on some dates, but alas ...

Anyways, I remember bits and pieces of the date. Like climbing in Liz's boyfriend's huge truck and sitting in the back by Liz while the guys sat up front. We talked about normal things like country music and guns.

I remember getting to the movie theater and walking in the parking lot having Guy tell me that he was studying to be a graphic designer. I wasn't sure what that entailed.

I remember sitting through the terrible movie and talking about guns again with Guy. Honestly, that's all I remember talking about with him. And that means that he probably talked more because I know/knew nothing about guns. Why did we talk about guns so much?? How was that a turn on for me??

I remember at the end of the movie saying how terrible it was and that Guy owed me another movie. I see what you did there. I know. I'm good.

And then, that's where my memories of our first date end.

The timeline is a little off at this point, but somehow Guy found out that I was 18 to his 21 and that I shared a first name with his mom. Apparently for potential boyfriends this is not cool. So, I remember us texting sometimes except his responses were very sporadic because I had yet to convert him to texting and he was uncertain if he wanted to pursue me (read above).

I remember it came to a point where I started to give up on Guy. PLUS, I heard through my brother that he was taking other girls out on dates. So, I began to notice this guy who seemed really nice and whom I had talked to several times, very casually. Except he was dating at the time, so I did not  pursue him. (Come on. I'm not that type of girl.) I just noticed him and I had heard that he had a crazy girlfriend. (He did. I got a little taste of her crazy once.) I thought that if they ever broke up maybe I would have a chance. I didn't get a chance and I am glad that I never got it!

Then one fateful day, I skipped chapel because I was tired or something. I was lying on my bed in my dorm room when I get this text from Guy. He asks me why I am not in chapel and the rest is history.

Now, Guy starts putting in the work.

Aaaand, I'll stop here. I'm sure I'm the only one who really cares about the details of our love story.

**I was trying to find some photos from this time. I still had myspace I think and can't sign onto my account so... I did find this photo though. It is from my highschool graduation. By the time I met Guy my hair was back to a lighter blonde and my braces were removed, but I guess I can see why he was hesitant to date me at first ................**
