Guy and I lost a grandmother this past week. She was mine through marriage and Guy's through blood. It was very hard hearing about her health deteriorating as we live so far away from our family in the Midwest. We felt, and still feel, so far removed from the whole situation. Distance is not fun.
On the day we got the news of her passing I frantically started searching the scriptures for any comforting words for myself and Guy. I came across a passage which is well known to most Christians, however I found new meaning in it when I read it from
The Message.
"And then this: We can tell you with complete confidence - we have the Master's word on it - that when the Master comes again to get us, those of us who are still alive will not get a jump on the dead and leave them behind. In actual fact, they'll be ahead of us. The Master himself will give the command. Archangel thunder! God's trumpet blast! He'll come down from heaven and the dead in Christ will rise - they'll go first. Then the rest of us who are still alive at the time will be caught up with them into the clouds to meet the Master. Oh, we'll be walking on air!
And then there will be one huge family reunion with the Master. So reassure one another with these words."
1 Thessalonians 4:15-18
I had the privilege of knowing grandma for 4 and a 1/2 years. There was never a dull moment with her and I many fond memories spent with her and grandpa. What a blessing to have something to look forward to when a loved one is lost.
